Middlesex Township approves playground upgrade
MIDDLESEX TWP — The community park, located next to the municipal building on Browns Hill Road, will soon get a major upgrade.
At the monthly board of supervisors meeting Wednesday, March 20, the three-member board approved the purchase of a new swing set for the community park, at a cost of just under $16,000.
The swing set, manufactured by Schneider Recreation, is 36 feet long and will feature six swings, including one handicap-accessible swing and two toddler-sized swings. Including a safety mat, the swing set will take up an area of 48 feet by 32 feet.
“I tell you, the community's been asking for it,” said township manager Jeffrey Winkle. “We're excited to get some swing sets out there for the community.”
The township also gave the green light for the Middlesex Township Volunteer Fire Company to purchase a new brush truck for just under $144,000.
Kush Kustoms, a company based in Westmoreland County, will take a Ford F550 chassis already owned by the fire department and outfit it into a brush truck suitable for maneuvering through rough terrain. This process is expected to take about a year.
The fire company has been seeking a new brush truck for over a year now, and were given the green light to purchase one in February 2023. However, the fire company balked at higher-than-expected quotes from contractors who would have outfitted the truck.
Both the swing set and the truck will be purchased through Pennsylvania’s COSTARS program.
