Police: Man threatened to behead woman, burned Bible during altercation
A Butler man jumped from a second-story window and onto the roof of a neighboring house to escape city police after he threatened to kill a woman with a kitchen knife Saturday, March 30, according to charging documents.
Carlos Maldonado Fuentes threatened to behead the woman in front of police and to light a West Wayne Street house on fire by burning a Bible, police said.
Fuentes was charged with felony aggravated assault, misdemeanors simple assault, terroristic threats and reckless endangerment and summary harassment following the incident.
Officers responded to reports of an altercation around 8:37 a.m. and encountered the woman, who told them Fuentes had threatened her.
While she was interviewed on the street, police said Fuentes jumped from a second-story window of the home to a neighboring house’s roof and then to the backyard in an attempt to escape.
Police said Fuentes was found hiding in a stack of tires in a yard on Virginia Avenue, which runs parallel to West Wayne Street.
Documents show the altercation began when Fuentes woke up angry and the woman asked him why he was angry. According to police, she said after this question was posed, Fuentes “flipped a switch” and grabbed a large knife from the kitchen of the home.
Police said Fuentes held the knife to the woman’s face and neck and threatened to kill her. When the woman advised she was calling police, documents show Fuentes said, “Good, I will chop your (redacted) head off in front of them.”
Police said when the woman attempted to get away from Fuentes, he hit her in the face.
Fuentes also stated he would burn the house down and lit a Bible on fire inside the home, according to documents.
The knife and burned Bible were discovered inside the residence, police said.
Fuentes was placed in Butler County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail Saturday. His preliminary hearing has not yet been scheduled.
