Harrisville changes regular meeting dates
Harrisville’s borough council has changed its regular meeting dates and will meet the second Monday of the month following a decision made at a March meeting, council president Kathy Bray said Monday, April 1.
Harrisville’s regular meeting this month will take place April 8. Previously, council met the first Monday of the month. At times, meeting dates would coincide with the first day of the month, which is when bank statements are released.
The decision to change regular meeting date was made to accommodate accountants and council members preparing and looking at financial reports.
“Sometimes we don’t have financial information to look at until hours before the meeting,” Bray said. “It isn’t fair for council not to be able to look at the (reports).”
Bray said holding regular meetings later in the month also offers the accountant more time to present a report.
The bank statements provide information on council’s budget and bank balance.
“The bank statements are cut the first of the month, but that doesn’t mean you get them that soon,” Bray said. “So we’re always behind.”
Bray also said council would no longer hold agenda-setting meetings regularly. Instead, the meetings, which take place the third Monday of the month, will be held “as needed” with prior discussion taking place during regular meetings.
“We’re trying to do what’s best for council and … what’s best for residents,” Bray said.
