During National Volunteer Month in April, the American Red Cross of Greater Pennsylvania is celebrating community heroes whose daily support helps drive the organization’s mission to help people in need.

However, the American Red Cross is still in need of volunteers for positions such as Disaster Action Team volunteer, Shelter Services volunteer and Disaster Health Services volunteer.

Last year, more than 3,300 Red Cross volunteers across the Greater Pennsylvania Region supported blood drives, assisted veterans and military families and provided food and shelter after more than 1,500 disasters of all sizes.

Nationally, volunteers represent more than 90% of the Red Cross workforce.
