Moraine ready for anyone who plans to visit for eclipse viewing

Moraine State Park in the northwest portion of Butler County is ready to serve as a destination for those who want a good place to see the upcoming solar eclipse on Monday, April 8.

Although Butler County is not quite in the path of totality, the eclipse should be partially visible to residents and tourists, including those at Moraine State Park.

According to park management, the best places to see the eclipse at the park are the Lakeview Area on the North Shore and the Pleasant Valley Beach area on the South Shore, which offer a wide view of the sky and large parking lots.

“We are expecting more visitors than usual, but we can’t predict how many,” said Natalie Simon, environmental education specialist at McConnells Mill and Moraine state parks.

All of Moraine’s 11 overnight cabins are booked for the day of the eclipse. However, according to Simon, that is nothing out of the ordinary for this time of year.
