County man accused of pointing gun at 3 people, including officer, child
Within the span of one week, police said a Butler County man pointed a gun at three people, including a Butler woman, an Allegheny County police officer and a juvenile.
Donald W. Reese, 26, is facing charges filed by Butler City police for allegedly twice pointing a handgun at a woman at her Butler apartment on March 31, and charges filed by Allegheny County police for allegedly pointing a handgun at a juvenile in Stowe Township on Thursday, April 4.
In the earlier of the two incidents, Reese is charged with felony aggravated assault and misdemeanors simple assault, reckless endangerment and terroristic threats.
Regarding the Thursday incident, Allegheny County police charged Reese with felonies avoiding apprehension, aggravated assault, robbery, unlawful restraint of a minor, false imprisonment of a minor, criminal use of a communication facility and misdemeanors carrying a firearm without a license, simple assault, reckless endangerment, evading arrest and theft.
Court documents filed in Butler indicate Reese is from Butler, while Allegheny County documents indicate he is from Zelienople.
According to documents from the March 31 incident, Reese came to a woman’s city apartment and pointed a gun at her face following an interaction. The interaction ended when someone stepped between them and shut the door, leaving him outside the apartment, police said.
Shortly after having another discussion with the woman, Reese left the apartment, according to documents.
The woman was informed a few minutes later that Reese was returning to her home and was still in possession of the weapon, police said.
The woman told police she locked her doors and windows, and heard Reese outside the apartment in a physical altercation with someone else.
Police said the woman dialed 911, opened her apartment door and tried yelling at Reese to stop when Reese pointed the gun at her again. Reese then shut the door on the woman, according to documents.
Police said a witness to the incidents confirmed a black gun was pointed at the woman on two occasions.
On Friday, Allegheny County police released information about their case against Reese via X, the social media platform formally known as Twitter.
The release indicated officers encountered Reese while detaining another individual for trespassing in Stowe Township around 6 p.m. Thursday.
According to police, officers attempted to approach Reese, but he backed away from them. As one officer continued to approach, Reese pulled out a black handgun and pointed it the officer, documents showed. Reese then fled the area, police said.
The release indicated police searched the area and knocked on neighborhood doors, and a member of the Allegheny County Police Department’s Violent Crime and Firearms team noticed a juvenile climbing through the back window of a residence. Reese was standing beside the residence as well, police said, but when law enforcement arrived, he fled the area.
Police said Reese dropped a black handgun while fleeing the officers. He was taken into custody later under a warrant for his arrest out of Butler County.
During the course of the investigation, detectives learned Reese approached the juvenile in the woods as he was returning home from football practice and held him at gunpoint.
Police said the juvenile was forced to bring Reese to his residence, and Reese attempted to make phone calls. Police said Reese also ordered the juvenile to climb through the window of the residence multiple times to provide him with a change of clothes.
The release indicated Reese is currently in Allegheny County Jail.
