SRU baseball sweeps IUP

By defeating Indiana (Pa.) twice at home on Saturday, the Slippery Rock University baseball team improved to 15-7 overall and 7-3 in the PSAC West.

Technically the away side in both contests, SRU saw Gage Gillott pitch a two-hit complete game shutout in the former win, a 5-0 decision, and go 2-for-4 at the plate in the latter, 9-2. Gillot is now 5-1 in seven starts with an 0.82 ERA.

The Rock took a 2-0 lead in just three pitches in Game 1, as Eddie Morris belted a home run that followed Joey Purcell’s leadoff single.

Seneca Valley grad Nate Malak pitched in the second game, going four innings and surrendering just two runs on four hits and three walks. It was his first victory of the season. Robert Herr saved that game, as well.
