Center Township to replace guardrails this summer
CENTER TWP — Supervisors voted Wednesday, April 10, to replace outdated guardrails on three roads in the township.
The township will pay Chemung Supply Corp. a little over $40,000 to take out guardrails on the inside of the curve on Elliott Road, Swamp Run Road and Glenwood Way.
Phil Wulff, Center Township supervisors chairman, said at the Wednesday meeting that while there are several guardrails in the township that could use a replacement, only the selected three were considered a priority for the supervisors.
“A lot of them are old original guardrails which are the wires, which are not up to standard,” Wulff said.
Supervisor Bob Sloan said he doesn’t remember any vehicles hitting guardrails on Elliott Road, where a guardrail is planned to be replaced. The other three roads that need guardrail replacements — Jamisonville Road, Sunset Drive and Unionville Road — will be addressed at another time. Making all the necessary replacements would have cost nearly $89,000.
The supervisors also awarded its 2024 road paving contract to Wiest Asphalt and Paving. The township will pay the company about $390,600 to pave Ableview Drive, Margate Drive, Lakeview Drive, Elise Drive, Summit Road, Milheim Drive, Thornway Drive, Walker Drive, and streets in the Shanor area.
Wulff said the paving may take place in July or August.
“We want it done before school starts,” Wulff said.
