East Brady woman sentenced for 2022 crash in Chicora
An East Brady woman who pleaded guilty to driving drunk and causing a crash in Chicora that sent three people to the hospital two years ago was sentenced Wednesday, April 10, to probation and house arrest.
State police filed charges against Pamela J. King, 58, including felony counts of DUI and aggravated assault by vehicle after the April 2022 crash on the borough’s Main Street. King pleaded guilty to felony DUI and aggravated assault by vehicle in February, and multiple lesser charges were dismissed.
King appeared Wednesday before Judge William Shaffer and was sentenced to serve no less than 12 months and no more than 24 months in prison, but was immediately paroled and directed to serve 60 months probation, including 18 months on house arrest in Armstrong County. She also was sentenced to pay a $2,500 fine, complete 40 hours of community service, and be placed on a SCRAM unit.
Before making his decision, Shaffer heard victim impact statements from Holly Dunlap, whose foot was severely injured in the crash, and two girls who were also in the vehicle.
Dunlap explained she was taken by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital following the crash for an injury to her foot. She said she now has to wear special shoes to accommodate the injury.
“Every step I take, I have pain, even with these shoes,” she said.
King addressed Dunlap and the two girls before she was sentenced and apologized for her conduct.
“I want you to know that I am really sorry,” she said. “I would never do it again. I know I can’t take it back, but if I could, I would.”
Police said the crash occurred April 14, 2022, when King lost control, crossed the centerline and crashed into Dunlap’s vehicle.
Police said King admitted to drinking before driving, and a blood test showed a blood alcohol content of 0.185%. In Pennsylvania, the legal limit is 0.08%.
