After a successful first year, Butler Downtown is bringing back its popular “Sips in the City” alcohol-tasting event for a second year, starting Saturday, May 4.

The second annual event will offer participants the chance to sample alcoholic beverages from 18 total wineries, breweries and distilleries set up at businesses along or near Butler’s Main Street.

“This year, we have more businesses participating and more alcohol stops,” said Butler Downtown board member Hannah Shannon, who is involved in planning the event. “We are also providing totes for all participants this year, which will make it easier to carry purchases from alcohol vendors and the businesses.”

Those who attend will receive a wine glass that can be used at all the alcohol stops, a wine tote and a wristband upon signing in.

VIP participants will also receive a wine aerator and exclusive discounts at the local businesses in addition to one-hour early access to the sample tastings.

Throughout the event, people may purchase bottles and cans. Those who are VIP participants can leave their purchases with the vendors and later pick them up at Diamond Park.

“Last year was a huge success for Butler Downtown,” Shannon said.

She explained that this event is a fundraiser and all the proceeds go back into the revitalization of Main Street.

“The local businesses also benefit from the event because they have more people entering their shops and seeing everything they have to offer,” Shannon said. “It draws people into stores they might not have realized were there or would have thought to shop at. The main goal of the event is to bring people to Downtown Butler to see the hidden gem that Main Street really is.”

Vendors at this year’s event include Butler Brew Works, La Vigneta, Back Home BBQ & Wine and many others.

Naturally, this event is only open to those age 21 or older. No one under 21 is permitted to purchase a ticket for Sips in the City, and event organizers will be checking for IDs.

Advance tickets are for sale at a cost of $30 per person and allow for access to the event from 1 to 4 p.m. The VIP tickets with 1 hour early event access cost $50 per person.

The price of standard tickets will rise to $40 on the day of the event.

Butler’s Main Street is not closed during the event.
