School van rear-ended Friday in Jackson Township

No one was injured after a school van was rear-ended Friday, April 26, in Jackson Township, according to officials.

Chief Terry Seilhamer, of the township police, said the crash occurred around 7:40 a.m. just as the van was pulling off Route 19 onto Lindsay Road.

The van was about to enter the on ramp to Interstate 79 and was followed by a Chevrolet Equinox, he said.

“(The driver of) the vehicle behind them said the sun was in his eyes. He didn’t see the van was stopped,” he said.

One student was occupying the van, Seilhamer said.

“He was fine. His mother was contacted and she requested he just go on to school,” he said.

Seilhamer said he did not know where the student attended school. Though the crash occurred within the boundaries of Seneca Valley School District, school officials said the van was not transporting their students.

Both vehicles sustained minor damage and were able to drive from the scene, he added.

Harmony EMS, Harmony Fire District and Evans City Area Volunteer Fire Department were initially dispatched to the scene, but did not transport any patients.
