Man dies in motorcycle accident on Route 422
BUTLER TWP — A man died Sunday, April 28 as a result of a motorcycle accident along Route 422 in Butler Township, between the intersections of North Duffy Road and Mercer Road.
The accident occurred shortly after 3 p.m. According to Michael Schmidt, assistant fire chief with the Butler Township Volunteer Fire Department, the rider collided with a guardrail. No other vehicles were involved, and there was no one else on the motorcycle at the time of the incident.
The rider of the motorcycle was declared dead at the scene by authorities.
In addition to the BTVFD, the VA Butler Fire Department, Butler Ambulance Service, Butler Township Police Department, and the Pennsylvania State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit all responded to the scene.
The incident caused major slowdowns on Route 422, and eastbound traffic was reduced to one lane for several hours as investigators worked the scene.
