Police: Man charged after barricading himself in Middlesex Township home, threatening officers

A Middlesex Township man was charged Monday, May 6, in relation to a March incident during which he allegedly barricaded himself in his home and threatened to kill officers as they attempted to serve an arrest warrant, police said.

Charles McHenry, 37, made several violent statements during the March 24 incident, including, “I had a plan when I was 12-years-old, that I was going to kill every single police officer in the state of PA,” according to charging documents.

McHenry was eventually taken into custody and charged by Middlesex Township police with felony aggravated assault and misdemeanors terroristic threats, resisting arrest, reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct and harassment.

According to reports, officers planned to serve the felony arrest warrant in the early morning hours of March 24 at McHenry’s home. The warrant was in connection to a violent altercation involving McHenry that took place in Armstrong County.

Police said McHenry had a history of violence, so emergency service units and Adams Township police officers assisted serving the warrant.

When officers knocked on McHenry’s door, he became angry and locked himself inside, shrieking insults and threats, documents showed.

McHenry then called 911 and told a dispatcher he had multiple weapons inside and would “defend himself by any means necessary,” according to the affidavit. Police said dispatchers reported McHenry seemed intoxicated.

Police attempted to communicate with McHenry over a loudspeaker, but he and a woman inside the residence refused to come out.

Police said McHenry made statements about having weapons, beating and harming police and killing every police officer in the state while barricaded.

Eventually, police said the woman left the residence with a dog while McHenry remained inside. After several other attempts to get McHenry to appear, a noise flash diversionary device was used.

Police said around 3 a.m., McHenry exited the residence from the front door but decided to turn back. Officers intercepted him on the porch before he was able to reenter the home, according to reports.

Police said McHenry continued to resist arrest and was taken to the ground.

McHenry’s preliminary hearing has not yet been scheduled.
