Delaware County man sentenced for drug running in Butler
A Delaware County man was sentenced in federal court on Wednesday, May 8, for possession with intent to distribute opioids in Butler.
Jamir Hughes, 23, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Robert J. Colville to serve 60 months in prison on his conviction of possessing drugs with intent to distribute, according to U.S. attorney Eric G. Olshan.
According to information presented to the court, on May 27, 2020, Hughes possessed 17 grams of a mixture of trans-3-methylfentanyl and cis-3-methylfentanyl and 115 grams of cocaine in a vehicle traveling on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
Hughes was on his way from the Philadelphia area to Butler, where he intended to distribute the substances, when state police stopped him in Somerset County and seized the drugs, the news release said.
In 2023, Hughes was convicted in two prosecutions in Pennsylvania state courts — the Delaware County Court of Common Pleas and the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas — of committing third-degree murder, robbery and firearm crimes. He was sentenced in Delaware County to 25 to 60 years in prison, and in Philadelphia County to three-and-a-half years to seven years in prison, according to the U.S. District Attorney’s office.
