Foodie Fridays return

Butler Downtown is once again hosting Foodie Fridays on the third Friday of each month this summer, an event that brings upward of a thousand people to Main Street to enjoy food, music and festivities.

The first Foodie Friday of the season is this Friday, May 17, at the city parking lot off East North Street. Hannah Shannon, a board member with Butler Downtown, said there will be many returning vendors and food trucks at each of the Foodie Fridays, and the organization is still encouraging people to dress up for the monthly themes.

“May is ‘Spring Fling,’ June is ’80s themed, July is ‘Dog Days of Summer’ — and we're welcoming people to bring their pets — and August is back to school,” Shannon said.

She anticipates around 20 food trucks are scheduled to attend each month.

Foodie Friday officially kicks off at 5:30 p.m. Friday, and vendor booths and food trucks will line the parking lot.

Old School will provide the musical entertainment this Friday, and Shannon said there will be different musical acts each month. Shannon said Butler Downtown also provides some of its own activities at each event.

The abundance of vendors and food trucks help to bring thousands of visitors to the parking lot, and they also help make Foodie Fridays a big fundraiser for Butler Downtown thanks to vendor fees, Shannon said.

“Vendors pay a vendor fee to us. That does pay for the band and everything else,” Shannon said. “It's a great fundraiser for Butler Downtown, and most of the money we raise we stick right back into downtown.”

The Moon Markets also will run every third Friday alongside Foodie Fridays. The Moon Markets feature vendors outside of Mystique Moon Antiques and Artisans from 5 to 9 p.m.
