Robert Matter
Robert “Bob” Matter, 82, died peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at the Sergeant Joseph George Kusick VA Community Living Center in Butler, surrounded by family after a short battle with cancer.
Born in Pittsburgh on Aug. 5, 1941, Bob was the son of the late Katherine (Steckling) and William Matter.
A 1959 graduate of Washington Vocational High School, Bob went into the Navy and trained as a shipfitter. He enjoyed many adventures and travels during his time in the Navy. He then went on to work in the coal mines. There were very few things Bob could not fix. He was an electrician, plumber and welder. He went on to working utilities for a broadcasting team and was able to travel the country.
Bob was a kind, witty, generous and loyal man, and if you had the chance to meet him, you did not forget it. He was a member of the American Legion, Italian Club, East Butler Fireman’s Club, Sons of Italy and Slovak Club. He enjoyed spending his time with family and friends. His motto was that you should enjoy your life, and he lived it well.
He leaves behind his ex-wife, Patricia Matter; his partner, Elizabeth Stout; two daughters, Lori (Bill) Harris of North Carolina and Mary (Jeff) Feldbauer of Renfrew; a son, Robert (Jill) Matter Jr. of Cranberry Township; six grandchildren, Allison and Ben Harris, Kylie and Jacob Feldbauer, and Robert Matter III and Julie Matter; and a brother, Lou Matter of California.
He was preceded in death by six siblings.
