Edward Zacherl Sr.

Zacherl

Edward H. Zacherl Sr., 85, of Saxonburg, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2024, at Allegheny General Hospital.

Born Sept. 30, 1938, in Curtisville, Pa., he was the son of John Zacherl and Anna Lasick Zacherl.

Ed was co-owner of Zacherl's Tavern along with his wife, Eileen, for 57 years. Prior to owning the tavern, Ed worked as a roofer, farm laborer, a riveter at Ambridge Steel, an insurance salesman, and had worked in the maintenance department at the Saxonburg sintering plant. He was a member of St. Mark the Evangelist Parish, Holy Sepulcher Roman Catholic Church; Westview Hunting and Fishing Club; R.C. Men's Club; and the Knights of Columbus. In the ’50s and ’60s, he was an accordion player in the Starlite band. He was an avid Steelers and NASCAR fan. To Ed, the only real cars were Chryslers and Dodges.

Surviving are his children, Cynthia Zacherl of Lewes, Del., Eddie Zacherl of Saxonburg and Elaine (Tom) Korbeck of Sarver; his siblings, Leroy (Mary) Zacherl of Saxonburg, Walter Zacherl of Portersville, Jackie Huff of Butler, Jim (Christine) Zacherl of Allison Park and Linda (Dan) Harigan of Saxonburg; seven grandchildren, Jessica (Jeff) Carson, Josh (Jocelyn) Korbeck, Sara (Nick) Urik, Kristina (Rob) Wood, Brittany (Dylan) Booth, Christopher Zacherl and Elizabeth (Mitchell) Kendall; 13 great-grandchildren, Ian (Bailey), Ethan (Mayson), Miley, Paige, Leela, Donovan, Dylan, Elena, Casmir, Addy, Ryleigh, Parker and Sydney; one great-great-grandson, Easton; and sisters-in-law, Janice Zacherl and Janet Zacherl.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eileen Zacherl, on May 30, 2022; one son, John Zacherl; three brothers, George Zacherl, Frank Zacherl and Charles Zacherl; and one sister, Anita Fox.

ZACHERL — Friends of Edward H. Zacherl Sr., who died Monday, May 20, 2024, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at FOX FUNERAL HOME, 410 W. Main St., Saxonburg.

Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 24, 2024, at Holy Sepulcher Roman Catholic Church, 1304 E. Cruikshank Road, Butler (Middlesex Township).

Interment will follow in Deer Creek Cemetery, Cheswick, Pa.
