NWS: Butler County at risk for severe weather Wednesday afternoon, evening

Submitted Image/National Weather Service of Pittsburgh

The National Weather Service of Pittsburgh has placed Butler County, along with portions of Western Pennsylvania, Northern West Virginia and Eastern Ohio, under a severe weather outlook for Wednesday afternoon and evening.

Amid the Level 2 severe weather outlook, the service said damaging wind, large hail and isolated tornadoes are possible, with the tornado threat staying “north of Pittsburgh.”

“Damaging wind remains the main threat with any strong storm, but hail and an isolated tornado are still possible,” the Weather Service said in a post to X, formerly known as Twitter.

The Level 2 risk indicates a slight risk, or an increased confidence in severe storms occurring, with a few storms possibly being significant.

It is recommended that residents in the affected areas monitor latest forecasts and ensure they are able to receive watches and warnings throughout the day.
