Roundup: Services and parades planned across Butler County on Memorial Day weekend
Events are scheduled for around the county to celebrate Memorial Day. Activities span Saturday through Monday, May 25 to 27.
√ The Prospect Memorial Day Parade & Community Day will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday on Main Street in Prospect. The event will include local vendors, food and art.
√ Cranberry Township will hold its annual Memorial Day remembrance ceremony at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Veterans Memorial in North Boundary Park. The ceremony is presented by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 879.
State Rep. Stephenie Scialabba, R-12th, will speak. Participating organizations include VFW Post 879 color guard and the Ohio Valley Marine Corps League Detachment color guard and rifle squad.
√ Sower’s Chapel is hosting a community Memorial Day service Sunday morning, honoring the late Sgt. Maj. Charles “Bud” Early, who died Feb. 23 at age of 102.
The service, which will be the 12th annual Memorial Day ceremony by Sower’s Chapel, will begin at 11 a.m. at the chapel, 100 Iron Bridge Road, Sarver. Everyone is welcome to attend.
√ In Evans City, a service, which is open to the public, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the cemetery, 8600 Franklin Road, Evans City.
In the case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved to Westminster United Presbyterian Church, 330 E. Main St., Evans City.
√ The Rimersburg Memorial Sunday Service will be held at Veterans Memorial Park at 3 p.m.
Bob Carmichael will act as the master of ceremonies, and the Rev. Andrew Flower, pastor of Faith Fellowship Church of Rimersburg, will be the guest speaker. The Rev. Mark Deeter, pastor of Wildcat Wesleyan Church, will have an invocation, prayer and benediction. Grace Kindel will present a special musical selection.
In case of inclement weather, the Memorial Sunday service will be held at the Faith Fellowship Church.
√ The Rimersburg Memorial Day parade will start at 9 a.m. Monday at the former Rimersburg Elementary School and end at the Rimersburg Cemetery.
A program will follow with Rimersburg Mayor Tim Yeany giving opening remarks and former U.S. Army Chaplain Michael Will as guest speaker. The Rev. Noel Jack, associate pastor at Baker Street Church of God, will offer innovation, prayer and benediction. The Union High School marching band will present musical selections.
In case of inclement weather, the program will be held at Union High School.
√ Chicora’s Memorial Day parade will begin at 10 a.m. Monday and travel through Chicora with a ceremony planned to take place in front of the memorial on Main Street. American Legion Post 642 will recognize 27 Karns City-area veterans who died over the past year.
Scouts will raise the American flag, and there will be a guest speaker and a ceremonial firing. Following the ceremony, there will be a luncheon at the Chicora Moose.
√ Saxonburg’s Memorial Day Parade will start at 10 a.m. Monday on Main Street. The parade will end at Roebling Park followed by a traditional ceremony.
√ The Butler County Memorial Day Parade will start at 10:40 a.m. Monday on Main Street in Butler. The parade will be followed by a ceremony in Diamond Park.
√ The Frank P. Cheeseman American Legion Post 393 will conduct traditional Memorial Day ceremonies at 10 a.m. Monday at the Slippery Rock Cemetery.
Ceremonies will move to the Recreation Building at the Slippery Rock Community Park if weather is inclement.
