PROSPECT — Military organizations, first responders, a marching band, Boy Scouts and local businesses joined a parade Saturday down Main Street to help the borough honor those who gave their lives for the country.
The Prospect Memorial Day Parade and Community Day featured the parade, food vendors, music and children’s activities.
The Bantam Detachment of the Marine Corps League led the procession followed by Butler County Veteran of the Year Francis Wiskeman, Syria Shrine Highlands Pipes and Drums, a caisson with a flag covered casket and a float commemorating Arlington National Cemetery.
The Slippery Rock High School marching band performed while they marched and were treated to a cook out at Moraine Elementary School after the parade.
Darlene Oliver of Prospect said her great-granddaughter Alex marched in the parade as member of the marching band, and she remembers pulling Alex in a wagon to watch the parade when she was younger.
Oliver said she and family members come to the parade every year to support the borough and fire department.
“I think we have a very nice parade for a little town,” Oliver said.
Volunteer fire departments from Prospect and Franklin Township, Unionville, Portersville and Muddy Creek Township, Slippery Rock and Oneida Valley were joined by state police and the Butler County Emergency Services Unit.
Boy Scouts from Propsect’s Troop 33, Prospect Boys and Girls Club, Prospect Baseball, Prospect Soccer and various local churches also took part.
The Syria Shriners brought several groups including the Camel Wheels Patrol, who did tricks on three-wheeled vehicles, the Syria Shriners Chanters, Syria Motor Corps and others to the parade.
Several residents and businesses rode in antique and classic cars and trucks.
