Brown, Johnston net win pair of races
WASHINGTON, Pa. — Brady Brown of Slippery Rock and Shawn Johnston of Evans City drove two horses each to victory during harness racing action Thursday at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows.
Brown drove LIttle Town Road to victory in an $11,900 Conditioned Pace, then teamed with trainer Steve Schoeffel of Evans City to guide Green Meadow to a triumph in a $9,000 Conditioned Trot. Brown owns Green Meadow, as do Kathy Schoeffel and Brooke Schoeffel of Evans City.
Johnston drove Filthy McNasty to victory in a $5,800 Claiming Pace. He owns the horse as well. He added a second win with Wholelotatrot against 15-1 odds in a $7,900 Conditioned Trot.
Trainer/driver Aaron Johnston, an Evans City native now living in Wampum, won an $11,900 Conditioned Trot with Momoni De Vie.
SRU’s Gillott earns all-region honor
SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University baseball standout Gage Gillott added a second all-region award to his 2024 season when he was named to the Division II Conference Commissioners Association All-Atlantic Region first team as a utility player/pitcher.
Gillott was 7-3 with a 2.44 earned run average, 70 strikeouts and 18 walks in 73.2 innings pitched this season. He hit .341 with 28 runs scored, 19 RBI and five stolen bases.
