On Saturday, June 1, the Butler Freeport Community Trail in Buffalo Township will be all dressed up for the 19th annual Freeport Flash, a 5K/10K race to benefit the Freeport Area School District’s cross-country teams.

The race starts at 9 a.m., with on-site registration opening at 7:30 a.m. Race-day registration is $30 per runner.

Limited parking is available at the Buffalo Nature Center on Monroe Road, near the start of the race. Freeport Senior High School is offering a shuttle from the school to the Buffalo Nature Center, from 7:15 a.m. to 8:45 a.m.

The trails will not be closed for the 5K, but visitors are advised to yield to those taking part in the race.

Also on June 1, the trail is taking part in National Trails Day with an “Open Caboose” event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visitors will learn about upcoming developments at the trail, and have the chance to pick up merchandise such as shirts and hats.
