None injured after barn fire in Jackson Township

JACKSON TWP — Owners of a barn on Edward Drive escaped injury after it caught fire Tuesday afternoon, May 28.

The incident was reported shortly after 4 p.m. in a neighborhood across the street from Hufnagel & Majors RV dealership. The barn was detached from the house and contained items such as yard tools.

Scott Garing, chief of the Harmony Fire District, said the fire likely occurred when a controlled burn went wrong due to high winds.

“It sounds like they were burning wasps and grass, and the wind picked it up inside the building,” Garing said.

He said the responding agencies managed to get the fire under control within five minutes.

Rescue crews from Cranberry Township, Adams Township, Portersville, Callery, and Franklin Township were called to the scene, but according to Garing, most were canceled before they got there.
