A Pittsburgh man fled a traffic stop in Mercer County and later punched a police officer at the conclusion of the chase in Prospect, Butler County, on Sunday, May 26, police said.

Leon J. Lewis Jr., 20, fled the scene of a traffic stop that was conducted on Interstate 79 near mile marker 114 in Springfield Township, Mercer County, around 8:40 a.m., according to police.

Police said they pursued Lewis, who was driving a Ford Fusion, to a rural road in Prospect, where he resisted arrest and punched a trooper as he was being apprehended.

Lewis was charged with felonies aggravated assault and fleeing police and misdemeanor resisting arrest. He is being held in Mercer County Jail.

Documents show his preliminary hearing is scheduled June 12.
