Man accused of shooting children with BB gun, setting off explosives in Middlesex Township

A Butler man was accused of shooting children with a BB gun and setting off explosives while they were in the room inside a Middlesex Township home, according to charges filed Tuesday, May 28.

Preston A. Roach, 40, was charged with four counts of felony aggravated assault, three counts of misdemeanor reckless endangerment and one count of terroristic threats after police said three girls, who were all under 13 years old, were interviewed earlier this month.

Police said during the interview the girls said Roach had shot at them with an airsoft gun when he was angry. One girl told officers Roach shot her in the leg and it left a large welt, documents showed.

Another girl was recording a video at the time of the incident, according to police, but Roach smashed her phone with a hammer to destroy the evidence.

Roach also manufactured fireworks and would use or sell them, according to police. The girls disclosed Roach would threaten to burn the house with the explosives and even light them and throw them into the rooms occupied by people.

Police said the girls said during one incident they were able to get out of the room before an explosive went off. It left a burn mark on the floor where it landed.

Roach is in Butler County Prison in lieu of $100,000. His preliminary hearing before District Judge Jack Ripper is scheduled June 11.
