Anne Henderson

Henderson

Anne H. Henderson, of Zelienople, passed away at age 100 on Monday, May 27, 2024, while under the care of Hospice at AHN Hospital in Wexford.

Born Sept. 5, 1923, in Franklin, she was the daughter of the late Rufus Asa Houghton and Margaret Bleckner Houghton.

Anne was a member of Harmony-Zelienople Global Methodist Church. During World War II, Anne served as a weather tower adviser with TWA airlines. She was corporate board secretary for Robinson Industries, now Robinson Fans. As a “professional volunteer,” Anne recorded books for the vision impaired at Carnegie Library. She served as president of the Zelienople Area Public Library, and while president she spearheaded the building of the current library on High Street.

Having three daughters drew Anne into work with the Girl Scouts, and she became the neighborhood chairperson for the Scouts. Anne was appointed to the H.U.D. Housing Authority for Butler County by the county commissioners. Her major assignment was to oversee the transformation of the old Zelienople High School into housing for senior citizens and the disabled. After completing Maple Court, she then oversaw the building of the H.U.D. housing project in Evans City.

Anne leaves behind to cherish her memory her three children, Barbara (Les) Gutzwiller of Harmony, Nancy (Carl) Staible of Zelienople and Sally (Ron) Marburger of Evans City; seven grandchildren; and 17 grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Anne was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James L. Henderson Jr.; and her grandson, Geoffrey Gutzwiller.
