Police: Ohio woman robs man, drags him with vehicle in Butler Township

An Ohio woman is accused of robbing a man and dragging him with her vehicle after meeting for the first time at a local bar, according to charges filed by Butler Township police.

Maura R. Flaviano, 25, of Canfield, Ohio, was charged with felonies aggravated assault and robbery, misdemeanors theft, simple assault, reckless endangerment and summaries driving without a license and driving an unregistered vehicle after a series of events May 21.

Police said that around 6:48 a.m. they received reports of a man bleeding from the head who was walking along North Duffy Road with no shoes. The man was later spotted at Walmart and then along North Eberhart Road, documents showed.

Officers said the man suffered a head injury and had tears in his clothing when they caught up with him. He was later taken by ambulance to Butler Memorial Hospital.

The man told police that two women in a white Saturn Ion had robbed him and dragged him 1,000 feet down a gravel road.

Police said one of the women was Flaviano, who the man met at the Eau Claire Street Café and Sports Bar in Butler. The two exchanged phone numbers there, documents showed.

Flaviano and another woman met up with the man at the Sheetz on Evans City Road around 6:18 a.m. May 21, according to surveillance footage detailed in court documents. Police said Flaviano was driving her vehicle and the man was in the front passenger seat.

The group pulled up to a home on Seneca Drive, and the man gave Flaviano $160 to purchase drugs, police said.

The man told police he exited the vehicle, leaving his phone on the seat, and Flaviano exited as well. Then, police said, Flaviano got back into the vehicle and drove away.

The man tried to jump back into the vehicle by hanging on the passenger door, asking Flaviano to stop, but she swerved the vehicle toward parked cars, documents showed.

Police said they were able to identify Flaviano’s vehicle from Sheetz surveillance footage and found her license plate and driver’s license were expired.

Footage also showed the man withdrawing money from an ATM before getting into Flaviano’s vehicle.

Flaviano’s vehicle was found at the Old Plank Estates apartment complex the next day, police said. Documents showed officers contacted her by phone on May 24, and she did not want to speak without a lawyer.

That same day, police said, the man located his missing cellphone at the Super 8 on Route 8. The phone contained text messages with Flaviano where they agreed to meet at Sheetz on Evans City Road.

Flaviano’s preliminary hearing has not yet been scheduled.
