Adams named Eagle sports editor
Jake Adams, 33, has been hired as the Butler Eagle’s new sports editor.
Adams, a 2013 Temple University graduate who is from the Allentown-Bethlehem area on the eastern side of the state, will replace John Enrietto, who is retiring as sports editor June 28. Enrietto will stay on as a part-time member of the newsroom.
“I want to continue the trajectory the sports department has been on for quite a while here in covering high school sports,” Adams said. “I also want to bring my experiences of working in three different newsrooms to the table.
“I want to provide the best high school sports coverage we possibly can.”
Adams was hired as a sports writer at The Carlisle Sentinel shortly after his college graduation in 2013. He was promoted to sports editor a little over a year later and remained in that position until May of 2021.
He was hired as sports planning editor of Lee Sports Wisconsin at that point and took on the position of assistant sports editor for the Louisville Courier Journal in March of 2022. He left that post in July of 2023.
“I needed to take a break from journalism,” Adams said.
Adams and his fiancee moved to Irwin “to be closer to her family.” After working briefly as communications specialist for the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center in Pittsburgh, he wanted to get back into sports journalism.
“I discovered how much I missed it and started looking around,” Adams said of his job search. “Butler is a good fit for us. I’ll be able to do what I do best, providing quality high school sports coverage.”
Adams has already begun working in the Eagle sports department.
“I’m excited to start,” he said. “I’m hoping to positively follow in John’s footsteps and lead the team as well as he did.”
