Karns City Area Jr./Sr. High School hosting free summer food program

The Karns City Area School District is working with the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank this summer to provide food to anyone who needs it. People can receive food in the monthly walk-up food distribution in the high school cafeteria on the second Thursday of each month from 5 to 7 p.m. from June through September, said Don Ras, district food service director. Registration is not required and there are no requirements for people to receive food. Families are encouraged to pick up for others who are unable to make the trip themselves, he said. Volunteers from the school district and food bank will help people who need assistance take food to their vehicles. Offerings may include raw meats, eggs, milk, fresh local produce, dry goods and convenience items. Statistics from this distribution will be used to determine if a year long food distribution would be beneficial to the community, he said.
