Adams Township man accused of shooting wife, himself waives hearing
EVANS CITY — An Adams Township man who is accused of shooting at his wife multiple times while she was in the shower before turning the gun on himself last month waived his preliminary hearing Wednesday, June 5.
Jay Palmer, 48, appeared before District Judge Amy Marcinkiewicz represented by public defender Ryan Helsel. He was charged May 13 with felonies criminal attempted homicide and aggravated assault and misdemeanors child endangerment and reckless endangerment following the May 11 shooting.
According to the affidavit filed by Adams Township police, the shooting occurred after a few discussions about the couple’s potential divorce.
In May 11, Holly Palmer she was showering when Jay Palmer came in and open fired with a semiautomatic pistol.
According to police, the first shot broke the glass shower door, and then Jay Palmer fired three to four shots as his wife was “trapped in the shower.” Police said two teenagers were able to break open the bathroom door and take him to the ground.
Jay Palmer then shot himself in the chest, according to police.
Jay Palmer was in critical condition following the shooting, police said. Charging documents show Holly Palmer suffered gunshot wounds to the abdomen and knee, as well as some injuries from broken glass.
Jay Palmer remains in Butler County Prison.
