Cranberry Township man accused of brandishing gun in traffic

A Cranberry Township man was accused of brandishing a stolen weapon during a road rage incident and was later found with suspected crack cocaine, according to documents filed last week.

Jairo G. Cardona-Mancia, 23, was charged with felonies theft, carrying a firearm without a license and drug sales, misdemeanor disorderly conduct and summary driving with a suspended license after police pulled him over June 1.

Police were dispatched to the intersection of Route 228 and Route 19 around 1:34 p.m. for report of a silver Nissan, later identified as Cardona-Mancia’s vehicle, nearly hitting another vehicle on Route 228.

When the driver of the other vehicle honked his horn, police said Cardona-Mancia brandished a pistol, pointing it toward the ground and waving it. Police said the gun was not pointed toward the man, but was flashed twice.

Officers said they initiated a traffic stop on Cardona-Mancia’s vehicle near the Cranberry Mall on Route 19. Documents showed a black folding knife and a pistol magazine were seen in the vehicle.

Cardona-Mancia told police he had brandished the pistol, but only pointed it toward the ground. Police said the weapon was located in the rear pouch of the front passenger seat.

Documents showed the pistol was reported stolen in Louisville, Ky., in June 2022.

Police said Cardona-Mancia agreed to a search of the vehicle, where officers said they discovered suspected crack cocaine packaged for sale.

Police said Cardona-Mancia was driving with a suspended license at the time of the incident.

Cardona-Mancia was placed in Butler County Prison in lieu of $150,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 21 before District Judge Kevin Flaherty.
