Petrolia man accused of stealing lottery tickets from store
A Petrolia man was accused of scratching more than $4,000 worth of Pennsylvania Lottery tickets while working at a convenience store, according to charges filed by state police Monday, June 17.
Jeffery C. Saar III, 25, was charged with two counts of felony theft after police said he voided transactions for the tickets over the span of a month.
Documents showed the owner of Petrolia Mini Mart discovered the thefts occurred between April 11 and May 2 and informed police June 6.
Surveillance video showed Saar scratching the tickets without paying for them and cashing out several winning tickets. Police said Saar would void the transactions for the tickets, making it seem as if he purchased them.
The thefts amounted to $4,584, according to police.
Saar’s preliminary hearing is scheduled Tuesday before District Judge Lewis Stoughton.
