Saxonburg sets up museum committee to aid friends group

SAXONBURG — With the management of the Saxonburg Museum about to change, the borough has established a “museum committee” to oversee that management and operation of the museum.

The committee will consist of borough council president Aaron Piper, as well as council members Mia Mazza-Petruzzi and Joyce Hutterer. The goal of the committee is to assist the Friends of the Saxonburg Museum, the 501(c)(3) who are currently in talks to take over the operations of the museum from the borough.

“We would be collaborating with them on certain events ... just offering some instruction and some guidelines with events and things that they can have at the museum,” Hutterer said at a council meeting Tuesday, June 18.

According to Hutterer, the Friends group is still having discussions with the borough for taking over the operations of the museum.

“It’s still in progress, but we have some volunteers that have stepped up so that we can continue to run the museum,” Hutterer said. “And they have some great ideas and some great plans.”

This story was updated June 19, 2024 to reflect the management, not the ownership of the museum, is about to change.
