Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Long

Elizabeth Catherine “Betty” (Lauer) Long, 88, of West Liberty Borough, Slippery Rock, passed away at Quality Life Services – Grove City on Thursday, June 20, 2024.

She was born on Jan. 6, 1936, in Butler, to Walter August Lauer and Lydia Elizabeth Frank Lauer. Betty married William James “Bill” Long on April 23, 1955. He preceded her in death on Dec. 26, 2006.

Betty was a faithful member of West Liberty Methodist Church. She loved being around people and helped raise several children.

Survivors include her sons, William Dennis (Lori Hoffman), Randy Ray (Michelle Ringler) and Thomas Duane Long, all of Slippery Rock, Donald James (Tammy) and Ronald Edward (Daisy) Long of Harrisville, and Donald Leon Stewart of West Sunbury; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, Butch and Floyd Lauer; and sisters, Edna and Doris.

A special “Thank You” to the nursing staff that cared for her. She was beloved by her nurses, who greatly enjoyed her company. Many of them called her “Gram.”

LONG — The family of Elizabeth Catherine “Betty” (Lauer) Long, who died Thursday, June 20, 2024, will receive friends from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 21, 2024, at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St. Slippery Rock.

Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Pastor James Roxbury, of West Liberty Methodist Church, presiding. Interment will be in West Liberty Cemetery, Slippery Rock.
