A road construction worker was struck by a vehicle Friday, June 21, in Washington Township and was airlifted from the scene, according to state police.

The crash occurred around 8:12 a.m. at the intersection of Oneida Valley Road, or Route 38, and North Washington Road, when a flagger was struck by a Chevrolet Sonic, according to Trooper Bertha Cazy, public information officer for Troop D.

“He was flown by STAT MedEvac for possible broken bones,” she said.

A landing zone for the helicopter was set up at the North Washington Rodeo grounds, which is a short distance from the intersection.

Cazy said the driver likely will be cited.

Crews were on scene until 9:55 a.m.

North Washington and Eau Claire volunteer fire departments and Karns City Regional Ambulance Service assisted on scene.

PennDOT reminds motorists driving in work zones to drive the posted work zone speed limit, remain alert and pay attention to signs and flaggers, turn on headlights if instructed and maintain a safe distance around vehicles. Motorists should use four-way flashers when stopped or traveling slowly, avoid distractions and buckle up, according to PennDOT’s website.
