Accessible trail being installed at Alameda Park
Vehicles and people won’t have to share the road around Alameda Park’s upper section much longer, after Butler County approved the creation of a pedestrian trail that will provide a loop around the upper section of the park.
Lance Welliver, director of Butler County Parks and Recreation, said county commissioners awarded the contract to Holbein for $102,486 to create a trail that spans about one-third of a mile. Welliver said the trail will loop around the sand volleyball courts and the multiuse field will be accessible from the park’s Pine Shelter.
While there are trails at the park, Welliver said some people walk the road to get around the upper section of Alameda Park. The addition of a trail will give them a place off the road to get around.
“We do have a lot of walkers in the park, but having something with an ADA-accessible component is important to us,” Welliver said. “We're looking to get this done this fall.”
The project is being funded by Community Development Block Grant money allocated through Butler County. Construction should begin in the middle of August, and Welliver said the work should not disrupt any programming parks and recreation hosts at the end of summer.
“Our summer activities through the township and athletics will be completed by then,” Welliver said. “If it affects activities, they could just be moved somewhere else.”
