Butler Township cooperating with AG’s investigation into former commissioner

Dave Zarnick - 2024

Butler Township is cooperating with an investigation into former township Commissioner Dave Zarnick that is being conducted by the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office.

Administrators have been notified of allegations involving a former commissioner who they did not name, and are continuing to cooperate fully with the investigation, Butler Township manager Tom Knights said in a Wednesday, June 26, news release.

Butler Township Commissioner Chairman Jim Lokhaiser said the township was made aware of the investigation in March.

District Attorney Richard Goldinger confirmed Wednesday that he had referred an investigation to the Attorney General’s Office related to the matter.

“I referred an investigation to them related to that,” Goldinger said.

The news release said the township is not in the position to make any further comment on this matter.

In response to an email sent to the state Attorney General’s Office on Wednesday, Brett Hambright, a deputy attorney general, said the office has nothing to share about the investigation at this time.

Zarnick, who served on the township board for 16 years, lost his reelection bid in the November 2023 municipal election.

Zarnick declined to comment.
