Police: Woman kicks troopers, medical personnel Monday in Muddy Creek Township

A Harmony woman was accused of kicking a state trooper in the face, as well as kicking other first responders on Monday afternoon, June 24, in Muddy Creek Township, according to charges filed Tuesday.

Heather M. Brannen, 38, was charged with four counts each of felony aggravated assault, misdemeanors simple assault, reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct, one count of resisting arrest and four counts of summary harassment.

Troopers responded about 3:30 p.m. Monday to a home on Hufnagel Road for reports of a disturbance. Upon arrival, police said Brannen was seen trying to kick out the front windshield of a vehicle she was in.

Documents showed a trooper was scratched on the arm as she attempted to place Brannen into custody. Brannen continued resisting arrest and was eventually handcuffed and placed into a Harmony EMS ambulance.

Police said Brannen then kicked two emergency medical service workers, so she was removed from the ambulance and placed into the back of a police patrol car.

While traveling on Route 19, police said Brannen repeatedly kicked the back of the vehicle’s driver seat and the trooper. Documents showed the trooper had to swerve the vehicle off the road and stop for her safety.

Police said when the trooper opened the rear passenger door, Brannen spit on her and kicked her in the face. Another trooper who stopped to assist was also kicked by Brannen, documents showed.

Police used leg restraints to secure Brannen for the remainder of the ride, police said.

Brannen was placed in Butler County Prison in lieu of $200,000. Her preliminary hearing before Joseph Nash is scheduled July 17.
