Butler deacon to be ordained as priest Saturday in Pittsburgh

The Rev. John F. Ferguson will reach an important milestone in his life when he’s ordained as a priest by Bishop David Zubik of the Diocese of Pittsburgh Saturday, June 29 at Saint Paul Cathedral in Pittsburgh.

Ferguson is one of four deacons who will be ordained to the priesthood Saturday, joining deacons Nicholas Clinton, John Kist, and Daniel Kushner.

“The Church of Pittsburgh rejoices in the ordination of these four men as priests,” Zubik stated in a news release. “They are ready to serve the people of God. Our mission to learn Jesus, love Jesus and live Jesus is continued in their ministry and through their hands, especially in the celebration of the sacraments.”

After graduating from St. Joseph High School in Natrona Heights in 2015, Ferguson studied psychology at Butler County Community College from 2015 to 2016, before shifting gears and beginning his theological studies at Saint Paul Seminary and Duquesne University in fall 2016. He was ordained a deacon in June 2023, and returned to Saint Paul Seminary that fall to complete his theological studies.

The day following his ordination, Ferguson will preside over Mass at St. Conrad Church of the All Saints Parish on Buttercup Road in Butler.
