Butler High School Students of Distinction named

Butler Senior High School honor students of distinction — students who have achieved a 4.3 or higher grade-point average — in the class of 2024 are:

Zeta Achezinski

Zeta Achezinski, daughter of David and Dawn Achezinski, of Butler. She will attend Butler County Community College to study business administration.

Lauren Beggs

Lauren Beggs, daughter of Daniel and Christina Beggs, of Butler. She was a member of the marching band and National Honor Society, and was an Academic Games Leagues of America national qualifier. She will attend Long Island University, Brooklyn, to study music, technology, entrepreneurship and production.

Kylee Bernhard

Kylee Bernhard, daughter of Joy and Michael Bernhard, of Butler. She was a member of National Honor Society, National Junior Classical League, student council, and orchestra, and received the Rotary Youth Leadership Award. She will attend the University of Pittsburgh as a chemical engineering major.

Julia Bianchin

Julia Bianchin, daughter of Robert and Delia Bianchin, of Butler. She was a member of National Honor Society (vice president) and class treasurer, Spanish Club, philanthropy chair, recipient of the National Rural and Small Town Recognition and an AP Scholar with Honor. She will attend Grove City College to study biochemistry.

Carson Bish

Carson Bish, son of James and Mindy Bish, of Butler. He was class president and a member of National Honor Society, varsity baseball, varsity hockey, chess club (president), Future Business Leaders of America. He will attend Pennsylvania State University as an actuarial science major.

Mary Bohin

Mary Bohin, daughter of Sandra and David Bohin, of Butler. She was a member of Latin Club (president), National Honor Society, Sequinette Dance Team and Best Buddies. She will attend Carlow University, where she will major in health science, pre-physician assistant.

Ava Brewster

Ava Brewster, daughter of Elizabeth Murdick and Gregory Brewster, of Butler. She was a member of the Junior Academy of Science, National Honor Society, Design to Make a Difference, cross country, and track and field. She will study biomedical engineering at Duquesne University.

Drake Burke

Drake Burke, son of Sean and Jennifer Burke, of Butler. He was a member of marching band, Tornado Big Band, PMEA District Jazz, and was an AP Scholar. He will attend The Ohio State University to study aviation.

Benjamin Busler

Benjamin Busler, son of Shaun and Melissa Busler, of Butler. He was a member of the boys varsity tennis team, National Honor Society, and Chess Club, and was a Golden Tornado Scholastic Foundation Scholarship recipient. He will attend Geneva College to study actuarial mathematics.

Alexander Catalfano

Alexander Catalfano, son of Chris and Amanda Catalfano, of Butler. He was a member of National Honor Society, Spanish Club, football, and baseball, and was an FBLA regional management winner and Golden Academic Achievement Award winner. He will attend Pennsylvania State University to major in actuarial science.

Maxwell Channells

Maxwell Channells, son of Aaron Channells and Kristyn Channells, of Wilmington, DE, and Jessica Geibel, of Butler. He participated in KD Quiz, the Chain Reaction Contraption Competition, INK Club, theater, and BTTV/video club. He will attend Butler County Community College as a communications major.

Riley Chapla

Riley Chapla, son of Jen and Terry Chapla, of Butler. He was class valedictorian and a member of National Honor Society, student council, boys volleyball and Best Buddies. He also received the Dr. and Mrs. John D. Anderson Scholarship. He will attend Purdue University, where he will study cybersecurity.

Ella Christy

Ella Christy, daughter of Kiley and Eric Christy, of Butler. She was a member of National Honor Society, football, and the Butler Spanish Club Council. She will study forensic chemistry at Slippery Rock University.

Abigail Cornish

Abigail Cornish, daughter of Nicole and David Cornish, of Butler. She was a member of Business Leaders of America, Academic Games Leagues of America, and Model United Nations Simulation. She will attend Butler County Community College to major in business administration.

Ryan DeSantis

Ryan DeSantis, son of Ryan DeSantis, of Butler. He will attend Butler County Community College to study engineering.

Charlotte Dickey

Charlotte Dickey, daughter of Eric and Jessica Dickey, of Butler. She was Sequinette Dance Team captain, and will attend Pennsylvania State University to study aerospace engineering.

Maxwell Drosjack

Maxwell Drosjack, son of Denise and Stephen Drosjack, of East Butler. He was a member of the rifle team, boys volleyball, and received the National Rural and Small Town Recognition Award. He will attend the University of Akron to major in mechanical engineering.

Hannah Fertig

Hannah Fertig, daughter of Richael and Rhett Fertig, of Butler. She was a member of National Honor Society, girls volleyball, and orchestra. She will attend Slippery Rock University to study exercise science.

Riley Gatz

Riley Gatz, son of Dave and Amy Wingenbach; and Dave Gatz, all of Butler. He was a member of varsity boys cross country, varsity boys track and field, and marching band, and received the Rich Rider Scholarship. He will attend Slippery Rock University as a computer science and cybersecurity major.

Addison Geibel

Addison Geibel, daughter of Timothy and Bree Geibel, of Butler. She was a member of girls volleyball and Spanish Club. She will study mathematics at Slippery Rock University.

Drew Griffith

Drew Griffith, son of Jennifer and David Griffith, of Butler. He was a member of cross country, and indoor and outdoor track and field. He will attend the University of Notre Dame as a mechanical engineering major.

Noah Karnes

Noah Karnes, son of Milann Karnes, of Chicora, and Michael Karnes, of Butler. He was a member of cross country, track and field, and Chess Club. He will study finance at Butler County Community College.

Kasey Kennedy

Kasey Kennedy, daughter of Michael and Linda Kennedy, of Butler. She was a member of girls lacrosse and National Honor Society, and received a Vogeley Memorial Scholarship. She will study nursing at the University of Pittsburgh.

Nicholas Kilgore

Nicholas Kilgore, son of Timothy and Jeanine Kilgore, of Butler. He was a member of varsity soccer (captain), student council, Best Buddies, National Honor Society and Spanish Club, and was an AP Scholar. He will attend Gannon University to pursue physician assistant studies.

Drew Knight

Drew Knight, son of Chris and Elizabeth Knight, of Butler. He was a member of soccer, track and field, cross country, National Honor Society, and earned the Northern Athletic Director’s Association Tri-Athlete Award. He will attend the Pennsylvania State University — Behrend Honors Program in applied mathematics.

David Krainbucher

David Krainbucher, son of David and Amy Krainbucher, of Butler. He was a National Merit Scholar and member of the KDKA High Q 1st-place team in 2022-23, Academic Games League of America, National Honor Society, Pennsylvania Math League and was an AP Scholar with Distinction. He will attend West Virginia University to study chemical engineering.

Kaela Malis

Kaela Malis, daughter of Chris Malis and Jerry Davis, of Butler. She received the Brad Zulick Memorial Scholarship, Golden Tornado Scholastic Foundation Award, Coach Award 2021 in softball, Team Spirit Award in softball, and was a member of Spanish Club. She will attend Butler County Community College to study accounting and business management.

Jenna McClymonds

Jenna McClymonds, daughter of Mark and Susan McClymonds, of Butler. She was a member of varsity girls soccer, National Honor Society (president), stage crew, Spanish Club (chair and scholarship), and received Academic and Spirit Awards. She will attend Indiana University of Pennsylvania as an applied mathematics and statistics major.

Lauren McKean

Lauren McKean, daughter of Kim and the late Mark McKean, of Butler. She was a member of the Environmental Club (president), rifle team (captain), Future Business Leaders of America (vice president), student council (co-secretary), National Honor Society, and the 3-2-1 Trivia Team. She will attend Pennsylvania State University Schreyer Honors College to study finance.

Emma Pflugh

Emma Pflugh, daughter of Holly and Lucas Pflugh, of Butler. She was a member of swim team, National Honor Society, FITE club (vice president), and commencement/prom committee, and earned an AP Scholar Award. She will attend Pennsylvania State University at University Park to study biology.

Brycen Seth

Brycen Seth, son of Josh and Cassandra Seth, of Butler. He was a member of the wrestling team, and will attend the University of Akron to study mechanical engineering.

Katharine Smith

Katharine Smith, daughter of Kristopher and Kelly Smith, of Butler. She participated in coed cheer and National Honor Society. She will attend Duquesne University to study biological sciences.

Hunter Swidzinski

Hunter Swidzinski, son of Stacey and Sean Swidzinski, of Renfrew. He was a member of the National Honor Society and was a state golf champion. He will attend Longwood University to major in business administration.

Jordyn Vandevort

Jordyn Vandevort, daughter of Carrie-Anne and Jarid Vandevort, of Butler. She was a member of student council (president), National Honor Society, Latin Club (president), track and field, and cross country. She also earned an AP Scholar Award. She will attend Grove City College as a chemistry/general science and secondary education major.

Leah Weiland

Leah Weiland, daughter of Alan and Heather Weiland, of Butler. She was a member of the soccer team and Best Buddies. She will attend Youngstown State University to study mechanical engineering.

Legend Wilkinson-Icenhower

Legend Wilkinson-Icenhower, son of Buffie Dunbar, of Butler, and Scott Icenhower, of Langsville, Ohio. He participated in cross country, wrestling, band and tennis, and earned the Frank W. Preston Memorial Scholarship and the Matthew James Cunningham Memorial Scholarship. He will attend Slippery Rock University to study environmental science.

Kathryn Wingerson

Kathryn Wingerson, daughter of Joe and Alyson Wingerson, of Butler. She was a member of National Honor Society and Spanish Club. She will attend the University of Pittsburgh as a chemical engineering major.
