Cranberry Township to expand fiber-optic network
CRANBERRY TWP — At their meeting on Thursday, June 27, supervisors started the bidding process to expand Cranberry’s underground fiber-optic cable network into the northern part of the township, which is currently unserved.
According to township manager Dan Santoro, the township uses this fiber-optic cable for its “smart traffic” system. At the moment, the cables only go as far north as Glen Eden Road.
The extension will be funded by a grant from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency.
“This grant allows us to extend the fiber-optic network all the way up to Victory Drive and do signal upgrades with that fiber expansion, as well as do some other signal upgrades in other portions of the township,” Santoro said.
