UPDATE: As of 3:30 p.m., there is no longer an active threat and the shelter-in-place is canceled, according to police. Law enforcement officials will release additional information later this evening, police said in a Facebook post.

Cranberry Township residents were warned Tuesday afternoon, July 2, to shelter in place as Cranberry Township Police are searching for a suspicious person.

According to a Facebook post made at about 1 p.m., the police department was searching for “a suspicious person wearing a Washington football shirt and/or hat.”

As of 3:30 p.m., police said there is no longer an active threat and the shelter-in-place is canceled. Law enforcement officials will release additional information later this evening, police said in a Facebook post.

The township requested that all residents shelter in place and lock their doors, and only call 911 for sightings of this suspicious person.

The Cranberry Township Police Department had a presence in the area of Glen Eden, Freshcorn, Powell and Unionville roads, according the post at 1:30 p.m.

The public was asked to avoid the area until further notice, according to Cranberry Township communications director Tina Fedko.

“We have no reports of anything that has been done,” Fedko said. “We’re just looking for a suspicious person in this area.”

In addition, Cranberry Highlands Golf Course on Freshcorn Road, which is owned by the township, was closed for the day and all patrons were sent home around noon. The Cranberry Township Waterpark was closed around 2 p.m.

Later another alert from the township canceled all township events, parks & recreation programs, and waterpark activities for Tuesday. Graham Park is closed for the day, too.
