FAIRVIEW TWP — Two individuals were transported to Butler Memorial Hospital after a two-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon, July 7, at the intersection of Chicora Road and Kittanning Pike in Fairview Township.

The accident involved a black Nissan Rogue and a red Chevrolet Silverado. The circumstances of the accident are unknown. A couple who witnessed the accident called 911.

“I saw it in my rear-view mirror,” said Jimmy Walker. “They hit right in the middle of the intersection. I saw a car spinning around and ending up down the street.”

According to Cody Craig, chief of the Chicora Volunteer Fire Department, between the two vehicles there were five occupants. Three refused transportation to Butler Memorial Hospital.

The accident still is under investigation by the state police. In addition, the Chicora Volunteer Fire Department, Butler Ambulance Service and East Butler Ambulance Service assisted with the response.

As a result of the accident, traffic was reduced to one lane with flaggers directing traffic on both Chicora Road and Kittanning Pike.

Initially a helicopter was put on standby to be called out to the scene, but it was determined it was not needed.
