A crash was reported Monday, July 8 at the intersection of Route 8 and Litman Road. Eddie Trizzino/Butler Eagle

An elderly male was transported to Butler Memorial Hospital after his vehicle rear-ended another vehicle at around 1:40 p.m. Monday, July 8, on Pittsburgh Road near its intersection with Litman Road in Butler Township, officials said.

According to Butler Township police, witnesses told officers that the northbound truck rear-ended the car in front of it, which caused it to side swipe a third vehicle. Police also said the occupants of the other two vehicles involved in the crash were not taken to the hospital, but the driver of the car that was rear-ended reported to have experienced pain.

The front of the truck was heavily damaged.

First responders stopped traffic to deal with the wreckage, with officers directing vehicles flowing into and out of Greater Butler Mart to get around the crash scene. Cars were backed up to the Picklegate Bridge by 2 p.m.

Butler Township police, Butler Township Volunteer Fire District, Butler Bureau of Fire and Butler Ambulance Service responded to the scene.
