Elected officials pleased with Northern Regional Police presence in Seven Fields
SEVEN FIELDS — Now more than half a year into a four-year long contract, the Northern Regional Police Department’s efforts are already making a considerable difference in Seven Fields, according to officials.
At a borough council meeting on Monday, July 8, Northern Regional Police Chief John Sicilia described June as a “pretty eventful” month for the area in large part because of an increase in weather-related calls. According to Sicilia, the department fielded a total of 907 calls, with 46 of those being inside the borough. His staff performed 226 traffic stops, 21 of those stops were in Seven Fields.
Last month, the borough council was asked to provide updates on how the new police staffing has affected the community after several years of frustration regarding proper coverage.
“Policing is great. There has been an immediate impact both visually within the community and enforcement,” said borough council member Morgan Hardesty in a June 15 email to the Butler Eagle. “The new relationship has been great. There has only been positivity to come out of it after years of negativity.”
The borough council also approved two improvements to the Seven Fields Town Park Pool and Community Center that will provide an upgrade to the safety measures already in place.
The first of those measures was the installation of new security cameras behind the community center and surrounding parking lots to provide full coverage of the newly renovated space around the pool. The cameras were approved for the amount of $9,650.
Borough manager Tom Smith said the cameras will supply an added layer of security and would help the police department should any issues arise.
“This is just an additional adding-on to the cameras we currently have set up at our municipal buildings,” Smith said. “We’ve used this technology for some time now at our pool and three intersections in the borough. This is just an expansion of those tools to make sure we’re truly covered.”
The other upgrade to the pool was for a new ADA lift chair for the amount of $5,820.
