Penn Township’s annual Community Day is set for Aug. 17 at Harcrest Community Park.

Entertainment will include pony rides and a petting zoo courtesy of Reichhold Farms, bouncy houses and a dunk tank, hay wagon rides from Dan Wible, and a rain gutter regatta race and ring toss game organized by Boy Scouts of America Troop 53.

The event begins at noon with a flag opening ceremony by Troop 53 and concludes at 3:45 p.m. with a flag closing ceremony.

Volunteers are needed to set up and tear down the event, as well as cook chicken, solicit businesses for raffle baskets, collect and deliver baskets, and handle raffle ticket sales.

“We are asking people to volunteer,” said Samuel Ward, Penn Township supervisor. “Hopefully they'll say, ‘Hey, I can help cook chicken. I can help set up tents and take down tents,’ that kind of thing.”

Ward said 500 people attended last year.

There will be one more meeting to hash out final details for the event on Tuesday, July 16 at 10 a.m. at the township’s municipal building on Airport Road. All are welcome to attend or send their comments to Ward if they cannot attend.
