Prospect to host annual 5K run in honor of former Major League pitcher

Prospect is hosting the 23rd annual Rube’s Run 5K Run and Walk on Saturday, July 27, starting from the Presbyterian Church of Prospect on Church Street.

The event honors Prospect’s most famous resident, Rube Waddell, who had a Hall of Fame career as a major league baseball pitcher in the early 20th century. The route of the 5K run will pass by Waddell’s childhood home.

Early registration, which comes with a T-shirt, is $20 and is open until July 20. Afterward, the cost of registration is $25.

The first-place finishers in both male and female groups will receive a trophy. There is also a “virtual race” for those who want the option to run a 5K but can’t be present at the site of the race.

Proceeds from the event will go toward the Prospect Area Preservation Society.
