1 person injured in electric bike crash
An individual was injured Wednesday evening along New Castle Road near Butler Area High School in Butler Township while riding an electric bicycle.
According to state police, the crash happened around 10 p.m. near the intersection of New Castle Road and Hansen Avenue.
Trooper Bertha Cazy, public information officer with Troop D, said the crash occurred as a vehicle struck the bicyclist from behind as both vehicles were traveling west on New Castle Road.
“The cyclist was thrown from his bike and sustained serious injuries,” Cazy said.
According to dispatchers, when police arrived on scene they requested a medical helicopter, but due to windy conditions, the helicopter was not able to respond.
Instead, the bicyclist was taken by ambulance to UPMC Presbyterian. As of Thursday afternoon, there was no further update on the person’s injuries, Cazy said.
The crash is under investigation by Pennsylvania State Police.
