Duquesne man gets prison time, must register as sexual offender for 25 years

A Duquesne man was sentenced and ordered to report to state police for 25 years as a sexual offender under Megan’s Law after pleading guilty Thursday to felony charges police filed for attempting to solicit sex from law enforcement agents posing as a 14-year-old girl.

Asaf A. Abokshref, 22, pleaded guilty to unlawful contact with a minor and attempted statutory sexual assault in Common Pleas Court. He was sentenced to concurrently serve seven to 23 months in county prison for both charges and ordered to register with police as a Tier 2 sexual offender for 25 years.

In late October, state police said they were contacted by members of the FBI Pittsburgh Child Exploitation Squad who indicated agents posing as a 14-year-old girl had been in contact with Abokshref since Oct. 11.

Throughout those conversations, court documents show Abokshref repeatedly asked to meet the girl to perform sexual acts. Police said arrangements then were made for Abokshref and the girl to meet to perform those acts in his vehicle on Oct. 24.

Abokshref arrived at the prearranged location in Cranberry Township on that day and was met by law enforcement, documents show.

He was given credit for the seven months he served in jail following his arrest and released after his sentencing.
