Trump campaign steps up to raise money for victim of shooting at his rally

The attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Butler on Saturday left one spectator, 50-year-old Corey Comperatore, dead. Just 24 hours after the tragic events, the Trump campaign themselves stepped up to aid Comperatore’s family.

As of 8:30 p.m. Sunday evening, at least two GoFundMe fundraising campaigns have started to provide financial assistance for the Comperatore family. One, started by Trump campaign finance director Meredith O’Rourke with Trump’s backing, has raised more than $3.2 million for all of those who were wounded or killed in Saturday’s attack, more than tripling its goal of $1 million.

Another fundraiser, started by family friend Jason Bubb primarily for the Comperatore family, has raised more than $687,000, far exceeding its initial goal of $7,000.

Another GoFundMe fundraiser, started by a “Sayf Kamel,” raised at least $6,380 from 49 backers before it was determined to be a scam, and the site took it down.
